The Energy Company Obligation (ECO), first introduced in 2013, is an energy efficiency scheme for Great Britain. ECO places legal obligations on larger energy suppliers to deliver energy efficiency measures to domestic premises. It focuses on insulation and heating measures and supports vulnerable consumer groups. ECO is intended to assist in reducing carbon emissions, maintaining security of energy supply and reducing fuel poverty.
A new obligation has been outlined under the Electricity and Gas (Energy Company Obligation) Order 2018 (referred to as the ‘ECO3 Order’), and the scheme that runs during that period is called ‘ECO3’. The ECO3 scheme, that will run until March 2022, will mainly focus on low income and vulnerable households, helping to meet the Government’s fuel poverty commitments.
Great news – the qualifying criteria has been widened from the last funding grant to include MORE benefits. But what does that mean to you? Very simply put, if you are in receipt of one of the following qualifying benefits then you qualify for funding and we can help you…
In order to be approved for the grant, somebody living at the property must also be in receipt of one or more of the qualifying benefits listed here. (attach link to your do I qualify page!)
As you can see the new ECO3 funding has widened the qualifying benefits to include various disability & MOD benefits.
This is a great step forward as it really does widen the amount of householders who qualify for ECO funding. So, if in the past you have missed out on any insulation measures you will now qualify!
We can still help you!! The ECO3 funding grant allows energy companies to deliver up to 25% of their obligation via ‘flexible eligibility’. This allows local authorities to publish a statement of intent on their website which outlines the criteria for homeowners and tenants to quality for funding outside the list of qualifying benefits. Here at the ECO Providers UK we are working very closely with numerous Local Authorities to ensure we can deliver as much Eco funded measures. Get in touch with us now to see if we are working with your Local Authority!
So, although under the new funding the UK Government have decided to keep the qualifying criteria the same they have allowed Social Housing properties with an EPC rating of D to receive new innovative measures to be installed under ECO instead of only those with bands E, F or G!
